The Colonoscopy

If you have not had this yet, don't panic. It's not that big of a deal.
The worst part for me was the prep. It tasted bad and I spent the whole prep time in a recliner next to the bathroom watching TV waiting for the next call (or scream in my case) of nature. I was already in bad shape so I was in the bathroom ALL THE TIME!
I don't think normal people have this problem, at least I hope not.
I hate getting an IV in my arm, so that was the worst part of the day for me. That and praying that I would make it to the office without having to stop and use a bathroom.
I was awake the whole time, but it was like being really high. Your just really easy going and you don't care about anything, you might even go to sleep. The air that they pup in there makes the colon larger so that they can see and move around, but it feels like you have to go.. so I had a little panic there until they explained that to me.
I don't remember the trip from the exam room to the waiting area, but my wife and kids were there when I came to and it was great to have it over. The whole thing was about 15min. in my case because they didn't go all the way since my colon was really bad at that time. Tearing the colon is a bad thing, so they choose to avoid that possibility.

My wife's best friend has colon cancer in the family so she has to get one every year.
She told me to mix the prep (The stuff that tastes nasty) with 7-up or sprite. That did seem to help. I hear that there is a pill called Visicol that comes in a set of 28-40 large pills. I would much prefer that. You have to be able to swallow large pills to do this. Not a problem for me, I take all 6 of my pills in the morning in one swallow.

I agree. The prep is the worst part. I had to drink large amounts of that ill tasting liquid. Didnt actually manage to get all down. Skipped the last bit.

Anyway. At my first colonscopy my intestence (spelling please? :) was in such a bad shape that they had to drug me up pretty bad. Dont remember anything from it really :)

Anyway, since you cannot eat during the preperations I brought a big sandwich to eat afterwards. That was a bad idea. If you been drugged with morfin during the colonscopy dont eat for a while afterwards. The food just comes up again :)
